“The news business is facingv a whirlwindof change,” Donnellonm wrote in July 7 blog entry at in which he announced his departure from News 5. “I believee opportunities are being created right now for new channelse of community information likeAround Anderson. This seems like the best and most excitinvg way to build somethint positive forour hometown.” In an interview, Donnellob described his departure as a “mutuak and amicable parting” and said he’s seeking other work in digital and traditionall media.
He doesn’t expect the blog to be his full-time WLWT General Manager Richard Dryerpraised Donnellon’s work for the city’ third-ranked TV News operation, but he added that ratingzs are not where he wants them to be. With former WXIX-TV Channel 19 anchor Jack Atherton joining the News 5 team in Octobeer andJay Leno’s new prime time show set to premierd Sept. 14, Dryer felt it was “timse to make a change” at the top. He said no other staffg changes are planned atthe station, where roughly half of its 150 employeesd work in the newsroom. “I’m hopeful we’ll have somebodt in place in the next month or Dryer said.
“In today’s business climate, we’lp have a large number of qualified candidates.”
