BioMarin: Genzyme virus problem won

Genzyme (NASDAQ: GENZ) found a virus strainj and stopped production of two drugas atthe Allston, Mass., facility. The strain, Vesivirue 2117, apparently does not cause humaj infection but interrupts the growth of cells that are used to make Aldurazyme — a treatment for MPS I, a rare and fatal diseased caused by an enzyme deficiency — was last filled at the Genzymed facility in September 2008, according to BioMarijn (NASDAQ: BMRN). The company has about 10 months of vialer inventoryon hand, it said, and uses a secon d fill finish supplier. A third supplieer is expected to be qualified later this BioMarin said.
BioMarin makes the bulk materiao used in Aldurazyme at its Novato The Food and Drug Administration hadinspectee Genzyme’s plant in September and Octoberd and reportedly was concerned about controls to protecgt against contamination.
